GRANT AMOUNT: $5,000
NUMBER OF GRANTS AWARDED: Up to 20
GRANT PURPOSE: The CCOF Foundation offers grants to higher education and vocational students pursuing degrees or certificates in organic agriculture to help with tuition and educational expenses.
ELIGIBILITY: Applicants must be enrolled in an educational program in the United States that will benefit their career in organic agriculture, including vocational training/certificate programs, junior college/two-year degree programs, and bachelor’s/four-year undergraduate degrees. Prior grantees are welcome to re-apply. Graduate studies are not eligible for grant funding. Applicants’ financial need is considered as part of the grant decision process.
DEADLINE: Applications open April 1, 2021. Application deadline is May 14, 2021.
Mechanized No-Till Organic Vegetable Experimental Collaborative / Year 2 Report
Come learn about continued innovations in reducing/eliminating tillage in field-scale organic vegetable crops from the farmers leading the movement! Three California working farms–Phil Foster Ranches, Full Belly Farm, and Park Farming Organics–will report on their two years’ of research in commercial-scale, no-till organic vegetable production under Conservation Innovation Grant (CIG)-supported field experimentation. Topics covered will include cover-crop biomass digestion under plastic and weed barrier fabric, seasonal grazing trials, novel equipment, and investigation of fungal-to-bacterial ratios. We’ll also hear research on the Carbon-to-Nitrogen ratio’s influence on the long-term fate of carbon in farm soils. Join the speakers for a live, moderated Q&A following the presentation!

Merck Forest & Farmland Center (MFFC), Vermont’s first environmental conservation organization, is looking for a Carbon Farming Intern to play a key role in working directly with our Farm Manager to advance the institution’s sustainable and regenerative agricultural program. At the heart of MFFC’s nearly 3200 acres of land is a 60-acre farm focused on permaculture, rotationally grazed livestock, and hay production.
Grant Period Open: 2021 NRCS Conservation Innovation Grant
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is accepting proposals through April 23 for Conservation Innovation Grants (CIG) to help support the adoption and evaluation of innovative conservation approaches on agricultural, forest lands and oak woodlands.
The CIG program this year prioritizes focusing on development and demonstration of innovative technologies related to resource inventory, treatment guidelines, quantifying benefits of soil health, carbon sequestration, pollinator and wildlife habitat, fuel management, air and water quality on agricultural lands, forest and oak woodlands. Additionally, the CIG program includes funding for development of methods to encourage agricultural producers to adopt soil health practices and better equip historically underserved specialty crop farmers to implement irrigation and nutrient management.
CIG funds can be used by partners to help compensate producers for risks associated with applying new conservation practices and approaches. Field trials and demonstrations also require evaluation of environmental, financial, and social impacts resulting from implementation of conservation approaches through CIG at the farm or field level.

Overview
The Conservation Partners Program (CPP) is a collaborative effort between the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) (www.nrcs.usda.gov), General Mills (www.generalmills.com) and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) (www.nfwf.org).
The purpose of the partnership is to provide grants on a competitive basis that will support the adoption of conservation practices and regenerative agriculture principles on working lands. Funded projects will advance goals of: 1) NRCS’s landscape conservation initiatives; 2) NFWF’s conservation priorities; and 3) the NRCS–U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service partnership, Working Lands for Wildlife. To maximize benefits to these priorities, the CPP targets investments in identified program priority areas.

Grant Period Open: Wisconsin NRCS Accepting Proposals for 2021 Conservation Innovation Grants
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Wisconsin announced today, up to $500,000 in funding is available for eligible individuals, local and state government, non-governmental organizations and tribes through the NRCS Conservation Innovation Grants (CIG) program. Project proposals are due May 7, 2021.
In conjunction with agricultural production, CIG is intended to support the development and adoption of innovative conservation approaches and technologies. Projects must be within Wisconsin and may be area based or state-wide in scope.
The CIG proposal must involve Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP) eligible producers and should demonstrate the use of innovative technologies or approaches to address a natural resource concern. These resource concerns must fit into one of the following categories: Conservation Planning, Manure Management Systems or Soil Health Management Systems.

Notice of Request for Public Comment on the Executive Order on Tackling the Climate Crisis at Home and Abroad
On January 27, 2021, President Biden issued an Executive Order on Tackling the Climate Crisis at Home and Abroad. This Executive Order laid out a series of actions for Federal Agencies to take regarding climate change mitigation and resilience, including directing the Secretary of Agriculture to collect stakeholder input on a climate-smart agriculture and forestry strategy. As part of this process, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is seeking input from the public to ensure that relevant information is considered. USDA is interested in your comments in response to the topics, categories and questions shown in the supplementary information section of this notice.
The Nitty Gritty on California Soils
The California Farm Demonstration Network is hosting a four-part series on California soils. This series will feature four speakers, each with extensive knowledge of California soils through the lens of farming and agriculture. Speakers will be covering various topics, including composting, orchard recycling, soil sampling, testing for microbial dynamics, and more.
Applications Now Open: Holistic Regenerative Farm & Winery Intern
Hanzell Farm & Vineyards, a holistically managed regenerative farm is looking for a farm/winery intern for the 2021 season. In this role you will gain experience in all aspects of farming and have an opportunity to work in winemaking after the grape harvest. Primary responsibilities will be working with our grazing animals, Maremma LGD’s, and helping to plant/maintain/harvest 2+/- acres of seasonal vegetables. May be an opportunity to launch a farmer’s market program for the right person. We are looking for someone to stay on from May-October. Unfortunately, we do not have housing available so local to Sonoma County is best. This position will be paid at $18/hr. Some experience in Organic farming is a plus!
